It all started with a dream from David Goins, a former Director of Music and Worship at First Church. He wanted to create a new kind of outreach ministry in Frankfort. David recognized that his success was due to the foundation and opportunities provided by countless music educators in his life. Wanting to provide the same opportunities for young people in Frankfort that might not otherwise receive them, he developed the idea for the Wesley Academy of Music, a music learning program for low-income students and an outreach ministry of First Church. The Wesley Academy of Music was first introduced to the community of Frankfort in the summer of 2017, through a First Church production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. All proceeds from this musical went towards providing free and/or reduced music lessons for children in our church and community who aren’t able to afford the resources to grow their gifts in the performing arts. These performances attracted over 1000 people and provided the opportunity for members of our community to really embrace David’s dream. Thanks to the support of gracious donors and patrons of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, the Wesley Academy of Music was able to begin providing lessons in fall of 2017. First Church is excited about this ministry and looking forward to being a part of many success stories for years to come.
